Welcome

Welcome to Eckford Township

Eckford Township is located in south central Calhoun County, Michigan.  Eckford Township was named after Henry Eckford, a naval architect from New York. While living in England, he was a friend of Oshea Wilder, whom Wilder Creek is named for.  Wilder wanted to honor his friend by naming our township after him.

We are graced by being a mostly rural farming community. Beautiful Stuart Lake, on the west side of our township, is connected to the Brooks Nature Area, a great hiking, biking and skiing destination.

Wilder Creek Conservation Club is a serene sixty-four acre parcel of land with Wilder Creek running through it and the awesome Wilder Creek Castle, its signature landmark.  This club is used by many groups and has a huge pavilion with a stone fire place, old fashioned water pump and clubhouse available to the public for rental.

Our township has four family friendly school districts, Marshall, Homer, MarLee and Albion public schools. Four churches are located in Eckford Township: West Eckford, East Eckford, Cooks Prairie Baptist and Maple Grove Church.  We also have a great community center which many have enjoyed and anyone can rent for various family functions.

Within minutes, M-60, I-94 and I-69 are easily accessible from Eckford Township. Our main and largest employer is Eaton Proving Grounds which tests and manufactures automotive and heavy duty braking systems.  We are securely covered by three fire departments, Homer, Fredonia and Marengo Townships.
